Be able to edit a photo in slideshow & crop

Description

If you need to change the caption or other metadata about a photo in a slideshow, you have to scroll through and find it.

We should have a link to edit this photo.

I am not sure if it should be an icon, text, or just clicking on the photo. Work it out.

My concept for updating the media module from a few weeks ago addressed this problem by removing the selected images from the grid, instead of greying them out. If the entire image is moved up into the 'selected images' area, you can edit its metadata right there, no need for a link to jump down to its 'source.'

I did a phsyical demo for John using Polaroids to explain my idea for the media section, it really helped convince him that there could be some benefit to doing things that way.

It's sort of like you are sorting through a box of photos, taking out the ones you like and putting them in order in an album. There is no concept of 'source' and 'instance.' I think this would help new users.

Remind me to show you what I showed John, we can go from there.

Wouldn't it be problematic to reorder a slideshow conveniently if they went into the "selected images" area full size with metadata and all that? Our slideshow reordering is currently one of our big eyepoppers.

Tom,

I have an idea to address that, it requires more thinking on our part, but I think a solution can be reached that joins the benefits of the system I'm proposing with the current advantages.

Keeping in line with the 'direct manipulation' metaphor here I think will benefit us. If we can make dragging easier it will be a lot easier to teach people the media section than 'click here to edit original' type links.

Tom, they would still need to be able to reorder the slideshow. That should stay intake.

Users *also* need a way to quickly link to the photo so they can update the description, etc.

This is possibly a short-term fix since Rick and I both have different ideas of how we can do this in the long-term.

For now, it would be nice to have a way for people to quickly find these photos.

Another thought, have help text pop up to guide people to an easier dragging experience while keeping the inline manipulation bit intact

I would prefer to do it the way I have sketched below.

This would preserve the very easy and very good way that people create, arrange and manage slideshows.

It would add the ability to preview the slideshow while making it. It would be easy to edit the metadata. It would also be easy to implement cropping.

Geoff, so you'd have a special view of a particular image in the slideshow which was fully equal to the views down below in the main area, or maybe even fancier, with back and forth arrows... and then the current slideshow selected items list, with the added feature that you could click (rather than drag) to change the selection above... and then the browser as we have it now

I think that makes a certain amount of sense

And as you browse through the preview slideshow, the little thumbnail below highlights with an outline or something to give you context with where you are in the slideshow

From previous ticket #126:

We need to add some type of image crop functionality

This might be a good option:
 http://deepliquid.com/projects/Jcrop/demos.php?demo=live_crop

Cropping might happen in the Media area or when the photo is placed in a slot.

We need to design the flow of how this would happen. John, consult with the team and work out how that might happen. Rick, coordinate with John to design out any interface elements.

An option could the solution we instituted for GPTMC where we allowed them to align top, middle and bottom all photos.

There is other stuff in this ticket, too much other stuff. Open new tickets for non-cropping issues that still matter

The code is referencing to jquery.jCrop.min.js while the name of the js file on the file system is jquery.Jcrop.min.js so that cropping fails on case-sensitive filesystems.
